3rd Harry Potter Movie Promotes Girl's Violence towards Boys

Sounds prudish at first, and the writing goes wrong a bit at the end - we're not supposed to be blaming anyone - but it strikes a chord with me. http://www.menstuff.org/archives/harrypotter3.html

People magazine supporting paedophiles - basically ignoring her history because she's a woman and they think people won't mind? So this is an issue for the level of public debate aswell.

You make a good point, especially with the first link. There's most definitely a line between empowering women and telling them it's OK to be men. The former is a goal to strive for, the latter wouldn't solve anything, as all the statistics we have today would just be reversed, not negated. Just as men today need to be educated on the evils of sexual abuse, maybe women need to get the same education?

So very true, on both counts!

Violence has certainly been masculinized, and for the wrong reasons, I might add. It's as if violence in females is considered "invisible," or "acceptable," or even "cool."

I've found myself saying before how many of the gestures intended to make a joke out of humiliating men in movies or sitcoms would not be considered equally funny if the sexual identities were reversed.

Great post.
